English as a Second Language
Gatesville ISD offers an English as a Second Language program dedicated to giving students who are English language learners (also known as Emergent Bilingual (EB) students) the support they need to be successful in school. The ESL program will enable students to become competent in the comprehension, speaking, listening, and writing of the English language. Course work is designed to draw on the strengths of students and help them reach their full potential.
Title III, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), aims to ensure that Emergent Bilingual and immigrant students attain English proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement in English. Title III will also assist all English learners to meet the same challenging State academic standards that all students are expected to meet.

English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), as required by 19 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 74, Subchapter A, §74.4, outline English language proficiency level descriptors and student expectations for EB learners. School districts are required to implement the ELPS as an integral part of each subject area.
Summit K12
Gatesville ISD uses Summit K12 as a resource for emergent bilingual students. Summit K12 is an online, standards-based curriculum that assists in closing the gaps and ensures growth in English language proficiency for all students.
